Although the process of withdrawing your student from a public school is a legally straightforward one, individual school districts sometimes put up a fight.
One Texas family decided to withdraw their daughter from Colleyville ISD to home school her, but the school district unnecessarily required an in-person visit creating undue hassle for the family–something the Texas Education Agency has clarified as not necessary.
Fortunately, the parents knew their rights and called THSC. Tim Lambert, President of THSC, assisted the family immediately by writing a letter to the school clarifying the law and urging it to remove the child from its rolls immediately to avoid legal action against the school and the district.
